As a former member of the Executive Committee of Transparency International Malaysia, Chew Phye Keat was invited by the Malaysian Integrity Academy to speak at the 2019 Good Governance and Integrity Conference held at the Dorsett Grand Subang on 19th September 2019.
The Malaysian Integrity Academy is a corporate training and human capital management consulting services provider registered with the Pembangunan Sumber Malaysia Berhad. Its objective is to train business organisations on establishing integrity systems.
Phye Keat centred his attention on the very relevant topic of corruption and the latest amendment to the MACC Act, his topic being “Corporate Liability Provision, MACC (Amendment) Act 2018: Corruption and Corporate Liability: What Needs To Be Done by Commercial Organisations?”
He highlighted that with the insertion of the new Section 17A in the MACC Act 2009 which is to come into force in June 2020, companies have to ensure that they have adequate procedures in place for the prevention of corrupt acts by their employees and service providers, failing which they, the companies themselves, would be deemed liable for such acts.
