In view of the extension of the Movement Control Order until 14 April 2020, MyIPO has also issued a further statement on how to deal with MyIPO matters during this extended period. The main points to take note are:
1. Extension of Payment Deadline for Renewals for Patents and Industrial Designs to 30 April 2020
Renewal deadlines for Patents and Industrial Designs registrations falling during the period of the Movement Control Order are extended to 30 April 2020.
2. Extension of Payment Deadline for Renewals for Trademarks to 30 April 2020
Renewal deadlines for Trademark registrations expiring between 27 December 2019 and 29 April 2020 are extended until 30 April 2020.
3. Trademark Applications with Priority Deadlines can be filed by 20 April 2020
Trademark applications with priority deadlines during the period of the Movement Control Order, which could not be filed online, can be filed manually by 20 April 2020 and still be entitled to the priority date claimed. However, MyIPO also advised that where possible, such applications should be filed on 15 April 2020 to be in compliance with Article 4 C (3) of the Paris Convention.
4. Extension of Office Action Deadlines to 30 April 2020
Deadlines for all office actions issued by MyIPO (for Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks), including appeals, oppositions and payments, due during the period of the Movement Control Order are extended until 30 April 2020.
5. New PCT Applications
MyIPO has recommended that all new PCT international applications be filed directly with WIPO using WIPO’s IP Portal.
